Faction Play Style

The Deepwood Groaks are a deck that taxes their opponent with long-term, abrasive effects that tenderize and weaken, all the while steadily enhancing their own units. Both of these efforts are accomplished with powerful, lasting effects from event cards which remain in play by spending boost tokens rather than discarding them. Hekateia, the Groaks summoner as well as numerous of her units, features ways to gain and move large numbers of boost tokens. These boosts sap strength from opponents and bolster Groaks forces over time! Though lacking in big, explosive turns, the Deepwood Groaks force opponents to fight from a weakened state, all the while as their own units benefit from enhancements.

Faction Background

The Deepwood is a dark forest once believed to be uninhabited due the proliferate growth of dangerous plants, toxic fungi, and poisoned waters. This inhospitable place has allowed the Groaks who dwell there, croaking amphibians with alien minds, to cavort in secret and master their foul craft. These master herbalists concoct abhorrent potions that strengthen and enhance the physical growth of the Groaks. But while these strange folk adapted to their toxins of their environment long ago, the same cannot be said of the other species of Itharia, and the Groaks delight in inflicting their loathsome brews upon all who oppose them. To the Groak mind, their ability to process and thrive upon the poisons of their craft, proves they are superior and destined to inherit the world.
There are four breeds of Groaks, each with their own place in society. The greens can process toxins better than the others, the blues are born with psionic abilities, the rare reds are powerful empaths, and the frail, blind little yellows, well, they are food.
