Most scholars believe the Filth only exist by the malignant will of the unnamed, masked wizard known as the Demagogue. This stranger first rose to prominence on the prairies of Mezzar, where his traveling preaching drew large crowds, though few attendees could later recount what religion was being evangelized. The Demagogue was deemed antisocial and an anarchist, but it wasn’t until he found a summoning stone that his real goals became more evident.

While many brand the Demagogue a mere madman possessed by demons, the wise suspect motivations of a far more sinister nature. Some postulate he is a fiend seeking to bridge the space between this reality and a demonic otherworld. Others claim he serves some ancient evil hellbent on returning to Itharia. Whatever the case, few dare to try to stop the Demagogue, fearing the foul, corrupting powers at his command.
